Consolidation

In our course we only discuss PLAPS (posterior and/or lateral alveolar and/or pleural syndrome), shown here.

In addition, there are several more US signs of consolidation which are recognized:

  • Shred sign
  • Anterior consolidation syndrome
  • Airbronchograms

The online tutorial found here provides an excellent overview of pulmonary US and discusses other sonographic signs of consolidation. Among them a relatively uncommon, but very important, Anterior Consolidation sign, and a common but relatively unimportant Shred Sign.

Anterior Consolidation Signs

Here is a still image from one of our patients with SS-disease, who presented with acute chest syndrome.
